Crafting the Ultimate Detail Box for Your Wedding

Your photographer and videographer will love you for creating a detail box! Your photographer will create a flat lay with the box of items to take detail shots. Flat lays are carefully planned out and each item is placed in a specific spot on a flat surface. Photographers will use the items in your detail box and add to the flat lay with items from their styling kits. Save this list for your wedding so your photographer and videographer can get the perfect shot!

Detail Box List :

Getting Ready Items

Include any jewelry you’re wearing on your wedding day (earrings, necklace, bracelets, watches, or pins)! You can also include your perfume, cologne, and shoes to help add dimension to the flat lay. Bowties and hair pieces are also great items to keep in your detail box. If you have a second look for reception, make sure to also include those getting ready items as well.

Stationery

This would include any and all paper items.

  • Save The Date
  • Full Invitation Suite
  • Custom Cocktail Napkins
  • Ceremony Program
  • Menu Card

If you have added accessories that were part of your stationery items, include these as well! These are nice accent touches.

Accessories

Just like you might be including stationery accessories, include other accessories you’re using throughout the wedding design. This could include drink stirrers or favors for your guests. Any accessories will help tell the story of your wedding day!

Flowers and Greenery

Flowers and greenery are such an easy way to to incorporate your wedding flowers and colors! This will help tie the rest of your photos and video together. If your detail box is the ice cream, flowers and greenery are the cherries on top. Ask your florist if they can leave a few stems and any personal flowers for your wedding party (bouquets, boutonnières, flower crowns, and corsages). Your photographer or planner won’t include the actual stem of the stems the florist leaves, they will take the flower heads off and place them facing up so you can see the flowers in the detail photos.

Rings

Don’t forget your rings!! And most importantly, don’t forget to clean your rings. Whether that is getting your rings cleaned professionally or cleaning it yourself, your photographer and videographer will be getting up close with your rings to capture the detail, the dimension, and the angles. Make sure you also have a ring box. There are different kinds you can chose from. Boxes come in velvet, wood, acrylic. They come in different shapes and colors. You can even customize your box! Or, have a ring bag instead of a box. Stephanie and Clayton had a bag they held their rings in and the photographer used the bag as an added detail item.

Fabric and Ribbon

Keep the extra fabric from your dress or any fabric you used as accent pieces for your wedding and stationery products. Like the accent pieces, this will help tell your wedding day story. It’s also nice to have in your detail box so your photographer and planner has a pleather of items to choose from.

Vow Books/Letters

Include your vows and letters you wrote to each other. Even if they aren’t in a cute, little vow book, include them. Your photographer and videographer know all about angles and will be able to capture them in a way where it will still look nice.

Special Touches

We love special touches and customization! This really helps reflect you and your partner and tells the story about the two of you. You can include accessory pieces that tell your story!

Speaking of special touches, one of our bride’s daughter left a note for her mom on the bottom of her shoes and we were able to capture such a precious moment with a flat lay shot!
