How to Honor Passed Loved Ones on Your Wedding Day

7 Ways to Honor Passed Loved Ones

The few days leading up to your wedding, you will be coming together to dive into conversation, reflecting on the past, and dreaming about the future with loved ones. You’ll be surrounded by emotions, both happy and sad emotions because you are surrounded by your loved ones and those couldn’t be present. There are many different ways to honor passed loved ones in subtle ways without carrying a somber weight. Here are seven sincere ways to honor the ones that have passed. Check out the last one on the list! One of our 2023 couples honored her loved one in such a unique way.

Reserved Seats

Designate a specific seat during your ceremony or reception for your passed loved on and leave the seat open. Add a bouquet, boutonniere, or corsage if they were meant to have one. You can also add their favorite flowers to the actual chair! Want to add more to the seat? Prop up a framed photo of them on the chair or you can hang a sign on the back of their seat. You can also drape their jacket or shall over their chair. For the reception, you can have the seat off to the side, or you can have a place setting for them at the table.

Our bride Tatum created a bouquet in honor of her best friend who passed shortly before the wedding and would have been standing next to her during the ceremony. She placed the bouquet next to her friend’s parents, who were like second parents to Tatum, to symbolize the friend was still there in spirit.

Toasts

Have someone that is giving a toast share a favorite memory of them with your significant other. It will be heartwarming for you and your guests. You can also incorporate their favorite drink. At the end of each toast, cheers with their favorite drink of your passed loved one.

Play Their Favorite Song

Is there a song they absolutely loved singing and dancing to? Is there a song that reminds you of them every time you hear it? Grab the ones that knew your past loved ones the most and share that moment with them by dancing together. Whether that’s a slow or an upbeat, dancing song, share the song with your guests and dance the night away!

Carry Them With You

Take a locket with a photo of them and pin or tie the locket to your bouquet or the inside of your jacket! This can give people comfort knowing that some kind of representation of their loved ones are close by as photos are being taken and when you walk down the aisle during the ceremony. If you have something of theres, wear it! This could be a tie, a bracelet, or a ribbon. Keep them close and near your heart!

Memory Table

This option is great when you have more than one person that you would like to honor. You can include framed photos of passed loved ones, add floral décor on the table, and sprinkle in candles for a heartwarming display. Old photos, recent photos, passed loved one’s wedding photos, you choose! Another option is to combine a memory table and reserving a seat for passed loved ones. Light A Candle

This is also a great option to honor more than one passed loved one. Display a lit candle on your welcome table with a sign letting guests know the candle is in remembrance of the ones that left you too soon. Keep in mind of the venue’s policies if you decide on this option.

Unique Way

Our previous couple, Nina and Austin, released butterflies at the end of the ceremony in honor of Nina’s father and other loved ones. It was such a special moment for them and their guests.
